Two things that scored low were pricing, and number of photos. I try to price my work competitively. I don't want to under value my work, and I don't want to work for free. I'm sure some people think "you already own the camera so why are you charging so much?" The truth is, I made no money this year. I put all my funds back into my business. Camera gear isn't cheap. I could have bought a car for what I spent on upgrading and maintenance, that plus child care and all the little things that go into a business make profit margins razor thin.
Number of photos is something I can try to improve on. I aim for 20 photos for a regular session. I almost always give more than that. I am very picky about the photos I choose, and I don't see the point in giving 15 of the same pose just to bring the numbers up. However, I might give that option for people who want it to see all the photos I took. The only reason I'm reluctant is I don't want the "bad" photos plastered all over the Internet. But, like all art, it is subjective and what I like might not be what you like.
The sails are coming down on 2010, there is a week and a half left and I have three shoots including a wedding before the year is up. Talk about closing the year with a bang! I had 40 shoots this year, unbelievable. I can only hope that next year is half as good as this year was.
A big thank you to everyone who made this year so successful.
